Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 130:34

Ja'far narrated to us, 'Abd al-Warith narrated to us, from 'Abd al-'Aziz, from Anas, who said: When the day of Uhud arrived, some people fled from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), while Abu Talhah was in front of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), shielding him with a buckler he had with him. He said: Abu Talhah was a man who was an archer, strong in pulling the bowstring; he broke two or three bows that day. A man would pass by with a quiver containing arrows, and he would say, "Scatter them for Abu Talhah." He said: The Prophet of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would rise up to look at the people, and Abu Talhah would say, "O Prophet of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, do not rise up, lest an arrow from the arrows of the people strike you. My neck is before your neck." And I saw 'Aishah bint Abi Bakr and Umm Sulaym, and they were with their garments tucked up; I could see the anklets on their lower legs. They were carrying water on their backs, then pouring it into the mouths of the people, then returning to fill them, then coming back and pouring it into the mouths of the people. And the sword fell from the hand of Abu Talhah due to drowsiness, either twice or three times.
