Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 130:42

'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Suhayb from Anas ibn Malik (RA)

Hadith 130:42

Narrated to us 'Abd al-A'la, narrated to us Zakariyya ibn Yahya, he said: I heard 'Abd al-'Aziz narrating from Anas, he said: A drought afflicted the people of Medina during the time of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said: The people stood up to him on a Friday while he was on the pulpit delivering the sermon, and they said: "O Messenger of Allah, prices have become high and the rains have been withheld, so supplicate to Allah to give us rain." He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, raised his hands and sought rain. He said: So it rained upon us, and we did not cease to have rain until the following Friday. He said: The people stood up to him while he was on the pulpit and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the caravans have been cut off and the buildings have collapsed, so supplicate to Allah to clear it away from us." He said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, smiled, then raised his hands and said: "O Allah, around us and not upon us." He said: So it shifted, and Medina became like a crown, while what was around it was being rained upon.
