Hadith 7:2

Yahya ibn Abd al-Hamid al-Hummani narrated to us, Abdullah ibn Ja'far al-Makhrami narrated to us, from Ibn Abi 'Awn, from al-Miswar ibn Makhrama, who said: I said to Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, "O maternal uncle, tell me about your story on the day of Badr." He said, "Read after the one hundred and twentieth [verse] of Al 'Imran, you will find our story: 'And [remember] when you left your family in the morning to post the believers in stations for the battle' (Al 'Imran) up to His saying: 'When two parties among you were about to lose heart' (Al 'Imran)." He said, "They are those who sought safety from the polytheists." [He continued] up to His saying: "And you had certainly wished for death before you met it, and you have seen it while you were looking on" (Al 'Imran). He said, "That is the wishing of the believers for the encounter," up to His saying: "When you were killing them by His permission" (Al 'Imran).
