Hadith 167:10
Zuhayr narrated to us, Hashim ibn al-Qasim narrated to us, al-Layth ibn Sa’d narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from ‘Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, from ‘Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, who said: A man from the Ansar disputed with al-Zubayr before the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) regarding the channels of the Harrah (lava field) with which they irrigated the palm trees. The Ansari said to al-Zubayr, "Let the water flow," but he refused. So he spoke to the Messenger of Allah about it. The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "Irrigate, O Zubayr, then send the water to your neighbor." The Ansari became angry and said, "O Messenger of Allah, is it because he is the son of your paternal aunt?" The face of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) changed color, then he said, "O Zubayr, irrigate and hold the water until it reaches the walls." Al-Zubayr said, "By Allah, I believe this verse was revealed regarding that: 'But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves,' until His saying, 'and submit in [full, willing] submission.'"
