Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 151:35

Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Numayr narrated to us, Ibn Idris narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj narrated to us, from Abu al-Zubayr from Jabir, and from Mujahid from Abu Ubaydah from Abdullah, who said: While we were in the Mosque of al-Khayf on the night of Arafah, we heard the sound of a snake. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Kill it." It entered into a crack in a hole. A palm branch was brought, and he set fire to it. Then we tore out some of the hole, but we did not find it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Leave it, for Allah has protected it from your evil, just as He has protected you from its evil."
