Hadith 153:185

Wahb ibn Baqiyyah narrated to us, Khalid informed us, from Kulayb ibn Wa'il, from Habib ibn Abi Mulaykah, who said: I was sitting with Ibn Umar when a man came to him and said, "Did Uthman witness Badr?" He said, "No." He said, "Did he witness the Pledge of Ridwan?" He said, "No." He said, "Was he among those who turned away on the day the two hosts met?" He said, "Yes." He said, "So he went away." It was said to him, "O Abu Abd al-Rahman, this man will report that you disparaged Uthman." He said, "Bring him back to me." Ibn Umar said to him, "As for the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) left him behind for a need of his, and he assigned him a share, and he would not have assigned a share to one who was absent. As for the Pledge of Ridwan, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent him to the people of Makkah, so the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) brought out his hands and wiped them over his palm, saying, 'This is for Uthman.' So the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) is better than the hand of Uthman. As for the day the two hosts met, Allah has pardoned them. Go, and exert your utmost effort against me."
