Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 153:40

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from Salim ibn 'Abd Allah, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Behold, your remaining time compared to the nations that passed before you is like what is between the 'Asr prayer and the setting of the sun. The people of the Torah were given the Torah, and they worked until the middle of the day, then they became unable, so they were given one qirat. Then the people of the Gospel were given the Gospel, and they worked until the 'Asr prayer, then they became unable, so they were given one qirat. Then we were given the Qur'an, and we worked until the setting of the sun, so we were given two qirats, two qirats. The people of the two scriptures said: 'O our Lord, why did You give these two qirats, two qirats, and give us one qirat, one qirat, while we were more in work than them?' Allah said: 'Did I wrong you of your reward in anything?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'Then it is My bounty, which I give to whom I will.'"
