Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 153:79

Amr narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri, from Salim, from his father, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Kill the snakes, and the *dhu al-tufyatayn* (the one with two white lines on its back), and the *abtar* (the one with a short or stubby tail), for they both snatch away the sight and cause the miscarriage of the fetus." Ibn Umar used to kill every snake he found. Abu Lubabah ibn Abd al-Mundhir—or Zayd ibn al-Khattab—saw him while he was chasing a snake, and he said: "Indeed, he (the Prophet) has forbidden (killing) those that are in the houses."
