Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 1:114

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Uthman ibn Umar narrated to us, Isra'il narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara' ibn Azib, who said: Abu Bakr bought a saddle from my father for thirteen dirhams. He said, "Order al-Bara' to carry it to my dwelling." He [my father] said, "Not until you tell me how the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) departed from Mecca to Medina." He said, "We set out and traveled through our day and our night until the midday sun stood high, or he said, 'The midday sun stood.' I cast my gaze and saw a rock that had some remaining shade. I sprinkled it [with water] and spread a hide for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) upon it. I said, 'Sleep, O Messenger of Allah.' Then I went off to clear what was around me, to see if I could see anyone pursuing us. Suddenly, I was with a shepherd who wanted from the rock what I had wanted. I said, 'Who are you, boy?' He said, 'For a man from Quraysh.' I recognized him. I said, 'Is there any milk in your sheep?' He said, 'Yes.' I said, 'Will you milk for us?' He said, 'Yes.' I ordered him, and he restrained a sheep from the flock. I ordered him, and he wiped its udder. Then I ordered him, and he wiped his palms of dust. He milked a small amount of milk for me. I had a water skin with a cloth over its mouth, so I poured the water onto the milk. Then I brought it to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and found that he had awakened. I said, 'Drink, O Messenger of Allah.' We set out, and no one from the pursuers caught up with us except Suraqa ibn Malik ibn Ju'sham on a horse of his. I said, 'This pursuer has caught up with us, O Messenger of Allah.' He said, 'Do not grieve, for Allah is with us.' When he drew near, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed against him, and his horse sank into the earth up to its belly. He jumped off it and said, 'O Muhammad, I have known that this is your doing, so pray to Allah to deliver me from what I am in, and I have upon me [the pledge] that I will turn away those who are behind me. This is my quiver, so take an arrow from it, for you will pass by my camels and my servants at such-and-such a place, so take what you need from them.' He said, 'I have no need of your camels.' We arrived in Medina at night, and they disputed as to whom he would stay with. He said, 'I will stay with Banu al-Najjar, the maternal uncles of Abd al-Muttalib, honoring them with that.' The men and women climbed onto the houses, and the boys and servants scattered in the streets, calling out, 'O Muhammad, O Messenger of Allah! O Muhammad, O Messenger of Allah!'"
