Hadith 1:16
Abu Kurayb Muhammad ibn al-Ala narrated to us, Husayn ibn Ali al-Ju'fi narrated to us, from Za'idah, from Asim ibn Abi al-Najud, from Zirr, from Abdullah: That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed between Abu Bakr and Umar while Abdullah was praying. He began reciting Surah an-Nisa, and he recited it fluently. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Whoever wishes to recite the Quran fresh as it was revealed, let him recite it according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd." Then he asked [supplicated], and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began saying: "Ask, and you shall be given; ask, and you shall be given." He said regarding what he was asking for: "O Allah, I ask You for faith that does not turn back, and bliss that does not expire, and the companionship of our Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in the highest eternal Paradise." Then Umar came to Abdullah to give him the glad tidings, but he found Abu Bakr coming out, having preceded him. He said: "If you have done so, you are indeed a forerunner in good."
