Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 1:2

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Bishr ibn Umar al-Zahrani narrated to us, Malik ibn Anas narrated to us, from Ibn Shihab, from Malik ibn Aws ibn al-Hadathan, from Umar, who said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) passed away, Abu Bakr said: "I am the successor of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." Then you came, and this one—meaning al-Abbas and Ali—you were seeking your inheritance from your brother's son, and this one was seeking the inheritance of his wife from her father. Abu Bakr said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'We are not inherited from; what we leave behind is charity.'"
