Musnad Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (RA) In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Hadith 1:28

Wahb ibn Baqiyyah narrated to us, Khalid—meaning Ibn Abdullah—narrated to us, from Khalid—meaning al-Hadhdha’—from Yusuf Abu Ya‘qub, from Muhammad ibn Hatib or al-Harith, who said: Ibn al-Zubayr mentioned [someone] and said: "He was long desirous of leadership." I said: "And what is that?" He said: "A thief was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and he ordered his killing. It was said: 'He has stolen.' He said: 'Cut him [his hand].' Then he was brought after that to Abu Bakr, and he had stolen, and his limbs had already been cut off. Abu Bakr said: 'I do not find anything for you except what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, decreed regarding you the day he ordered your killing, for he was more knowledgeable about you.' So he ordered his killing. Some young boys from the sons of the Emigrants—I was among them—were there. Ibn al-Zubayr said: 'They appointed me over you,' so we appointed him over us. We took him to al-Baqi‘ and killed him."
