Hadith 1:51
Abu Musa narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Walid, from Ibn Tadras, from Asma, who said: When "May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined" (Surah al-Masad) was revealed, the one-eyed Umm Jamil came, wailing, with a stone in her hand. She was saying: "We reject Mudhammam (the dispraised one), we have disobeyed his command, and we have rejected his religion." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was sitting, and Abu Bakr was beside him—or he said: with him. Abu Bakr said: "She has approached, and I fear that she will see you." He (the Prophet) said: "She will not see me," and he recited Quran to protect himself with it: "And when you recite the Quran, We place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter a hidden barrier" (Surah al-Isra, verse 45). She came until she stood over Abu Bakr, and she did not see the Prophet (ﷺ). She said: "O Abu Bakr, it has reached me that your companion has satirized me." Abu Bakr said: "No, by the Lord of this House, he has not satirized you." So she turned away, saying: "Quraysh knows that I am the daughter of its master."
