Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 1:54

Abu Musa Ishaq bin Ibrahim al-Harawi narrated to us, al-Nadr bin Shumayl narrated to us, Abu Na'amah narrated to us, al-Bara' bin Nawfal narrated to us, from Walan al-'Adawi, from Hudhayfah, from Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up one day and prayed the morning prayer, then he sat until it was mid-morning. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) laughed, then he remained in his place until he prayed the noon, afternoon, and sunset prayers, all the while not speaking, until he prayed the night prayer. Then he stood up to go to his family. The people said to Abu Bakr, "Ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) what is the matter with him; he did something today that he has never done before." He said, "Yes." [The Prophet said]: "There was presented to me what will be of the affairs of the world and the Hereafter. The first and the last will be gathered on a single plain, and the people will be terrified by that. They will go to Adam, while the sweat will almost bridle them, and they will say, 'O Adam, you are the father of mankind and Allah chose you; intercede for us with your Lord.' He will say, 'I have encountered the like of what you have encountered. Go to your father after your father, to Nuh, for Allah chose Nuh, the family of Ibrahim, and the family of 'Imran over the worlds.'" He said: "So they will go to Nuh and say, 'Intercede for us with your Lord; you, Allah chose you and answered your supplication, and you did not leave a single inhabitant of the disbelievers on the earth.' He will say, 'That is not with me. Go to Musa, for Allah spoke to him directly.' Musa will say, 'That is not with me, but go to 'Isa, for he used to heal the blind and the leper and bring the dead to life.' 'Isa will say, 'That is not with me, but go to the master of the children of Adam, for he is the first one for whom the earth will split open on the Day of Resurrection. Go to Muhammad, so he may intercede for you with your Lord.'" He said: "So he will go, and Jibril will be called. He said: So Jibril will come to his Lord, and Allah will say, 'Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise.' He said: So Jibril will go with him, and he will fall prostrate for the duration of another week. Then Allah will say, 'O Muhammad, raise your head and speak, you will be heard; and intercede, you will be granted intercession.' He said: So he will raise his head, and when he looks at his Lord, he will fall prostrate for the duration of another week. Then Allah will say, 'O Muhammad, raise your head and speak, you will be heard; and intercede, you will be granted intercession.' He said: And he will fall prostrate." He said: "Then Jibril will take him by his upper arms. He said: Then Allah will open for him [the gates of] supplication, something He has never opened for any human being before. He said: So he will say, 'O my Lord, You have made me the master of the children of Adam, and it is no boast, and the first for whom the earth will split open on the Day of Resurrection, and it is no boast, to the extent that there will come to my Basin [a number of people] more than what is between San'a and Ayla.'" He said: "Then it will be said, 'Call the truthful ones (Siddiqin),' and they will intercede. He said: Then it will be said, 'Call the prophets.' He said: The prophet will come, peace be upon him, with a group, and the prophet with five or six, and the prophet with no one with him. He said: Then it will be said, 'Call the martyrs.' He said: So they will intercede for whom they wish. He said: When the martyrs have finished, the Blessed and Exalted says, 'I am the Most Merciful of the merciful. Enter into My Paradise whoever did not associate anything with Me.'" He said: "So they will enter Paradise. Then Allah will say, 'Look into the Fire; is there anyone there who ever did a good deed?' He said: They will find a man in the Fire, and it will be said to him, 'Did you ever do a good deed?' He will say, 'No, except that I used to be lenient in selling.' He said: So Allah will say, 'Be lenient to My servant, as he was lenient to My servants.' Then he will be brought out of the Fire." He said: "And another man, and Allah will say, 'Did you ever do a good deed?' He will say, 'No, except that I commanded my children, when I died, to burn me, then grind me, until when I became like kohl, take me to the sea and scatter me in the wind.' He said: So Allah will say, 'Why did you do that?' He will say, 'Out of fear of You.' He said: So He will say, 'Look at a kingdom greater than the greatest kingdom, for you shall have the like of it and ten times its like.' He said: So he will say, 'Are You mocking me, while You are the King?' And that is what I laughed at during the mid-morning."
