Hadith 155:252
Abu Bakr narrated to us, Sharik bin Abdullah narrated to us, from Umarah bin al-Qa'qa' and Ibn Shubrumah, from Abu Zur'ah, from Abu Hurairah, who said: A man came to the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and said: "O Messenger of Allah, inform me who is the most deserving of people of good companionship?" He said: "Yes, and by your father, you shall be informed: your mother." He said: "Then who?" He said: "Then your mother." He said: "Then who?" He said: "Then your mother." He said: "Then who?" He said: "Then your father." He said: "Inform me, O Messenger of Allah, what is the charity that is greatest in reward?" He said: "Yes, and by Allah, you shall be informed: that you give charity while you are healthy and stingy, hoping for life and fearing poverty, and you do not delay until, when your soul reaches here—and he gestured to his throat—you say: 'This is for so-and-so, and this is for so-and-so,' when it has already become theirs, even if you dislike it."
