Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 155:341

Dawud ibn Rashid narrated to us, Khalaf ibn Khalifah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Kaysan narrated to us, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went out one day and suddenly he was with Abu Bakr and Umar. He said, "What brought you both out at this hour?" They said, "Hunger." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "And I, by the One in Whose hand is my soul, nothing brought me out except that which brought you out. Stand up." He said: So they stood up with him and he came to the house of a man from the Ansar, but he was not there. When the woman saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and his two companions, she said, "Welcome and greetings." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said to her, "Where is so-and-so?" She said, "He went to fetch fresh water for us." He said: While they were like that, the Ansari man came, carrying a water skin. When he looked at the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) and his two companions, he said, "Allahu Akbar," then said, "Praise be to Allah, I do not find anyone among the people today with more honorable guests than me." He said: So he went and cut for them a cluster of dates containing both ripe and unripe dates, and placed it before them. The Prophet (ﷺ) said to him, "Why did you not pick them for us?" The Ansari said, "O Messenger of Allah, choose with your own eyes." Then he took the knife and went off. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Beware of the milch animal." He said: So he slaughtered for them, and they ate from that cluster and from that sheep, and they drank from the water. Then the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) said to them, "By the One in Whose hand is my soul, you will surely be asked about this bounty on the Day of Resurrection. Hunger brought you out of your houses, then you did not return until you had attained this. This is from the bounty."
