Hadith 155:354

Ibrahim ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Abu Usamah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Kaysan narrated to us, Abu Hazim narrated to us, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, hardship has afflicted me." He sent to his wives, but did not find anything with them. He said: "Is there no man who will host this person tonight?" A man stood up and went to his family. He said to his family: "The guest of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace); do not withhold anything from him." She said: "By Allah, I have nothing except the food of the children." He said: "When the children want dinner, put them to sleep, come, and extinguish the lamp, and we will fold our stomachs tonight." She did so. Then the man went early to the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), and he said: "Allah has marveled at—or laughed at—so-and-so and so-and-so." Then Allah revealed: "And they give preference over themselves, even though they are in poverty."
