Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Abu Dawud al-Hafari narrated to us, Ibn Abi Za'idah narrated to us, from Sa'd ibn Tariq, from Abu Hazim, from Abu Hurayrah, who said: "Indeed, this nation is a nation that has been shown mercy; there is no punishment upon it except for what it inflicts upon its own self." He said: I said, "And how does it inflict punishment upon its own self?" He said: "Was the Day of the River not a punishment? Was the Day of the Camel not a punishment? Was the Day of Siffin not a punishment?"
