Hadith 42:101

Abdullah bin Mu'awiyah al-Jumahi narrated to us, Hammad bin Salamah narrated to us, from al-Hajjaj, from Atiyyah al-Awfi, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "There was no prophet except that he warned his people about the Dajjal, and I am warning you about him. He is one-eyed, with a protruding eyeball, and it is not hidden, as if it were phlegm on the side of a wall. His left eye is as if it were a glittering star. With him is something like Paradise and Hell; his Paradise is a spring of smoke, and his Hell is a green garden. Before him are two men warning the people of the villages. Whenever they leave a village, the first of them enters it. He is given power over a man—power he is not given over anyone else—so he slaughters him, then strikes him with his staff, then says, 'Rise.' He says to his companions, 'How do you see? Am I not your Lord?' They bear witness to his polytheism. The slaughtered man says, 'O people, this is the Dajjal, the Messiah, whom the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) warned us about.' He returns again and slaughters him, then strikes him with his staff, and says to him, 'Rise.' He says to his companions, 'How do you see? Am I not your Lord?' They bear witness to his polytheism. The slaughtered man says, 'O people, behold, this is the Dajjal, the Messiah, whom the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) warned us about; this has only increased my insight regarding you.' He returns and slaughters him a third time, then strikes him with his staff, and says, 'Rise.' He says to his companions, 'How do you see? Am I not your Lord?' They bear witness to his polytheism. He says, 'O people, this is the Dajjal, the Messiah, whom the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) warned us about; this has only increased my insight regarding you.' Then he returns and slaughters him a fourth time, but Allah strikes his throat with a plate of copper, so he is unable to slaughter him." Abu Sa'id said: "By Allah, I did not see copper except on that day." He said: "People will plant and sow after that." Abu Sa'id said: "We used to think that man was Umar bin al-Khattab, because of what we knew of his strength and firmness."
