Uqbah ibn Mukram narrated to us, Yunus narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq narrated to us, from Ubayd Allah ibn al-Mughirah ibn Mu'ayqib, from Sulayman ibn Amr ibn al-Atwari—who was an orphan under the care of Abu Sa'id—from Abu Sa'id, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "When Allah gathers the people on one level plain on the Day of Resurrection, the Fire will approach, with some parts of it riding upon others, and its keepers will be restraining it. It will say: 'By the might of my Lord, either You shall let me loose upon my spouses, or I shall cover the people in one single sweep.' They will say: 'And who are your spouses?' It will say: 'Every arrogant tyrant.' Then it will extend its tongue and snatch them with it from among the people, and cast them into its belly. Then it will retreat. Then it will approach, with some parts of it riding upon others, and its keepers will be restraining it. It will say: 'By the might of my Lord, either You shall let me loose upon my spouses, or I shall cover the people in one single sweep.' They will say: 'And who are your spouses?' It will say: 'Every tyrant who is ungrateful.' Then it will snatch them with its tongue from among the people and cast them into its belly. Then it will retreat. Then it will approach, and some parts of it will ride upon others, and its keepers will be restraining it. It will say: 'By the might of my Lord, either You shall let me loose upon my spouses, or I shall cover the people in one single sweep.' They will say: 'Who are your spouses?' It will say: 'Every conceited boaster.' Then it will snatch them with its tongue from among the people and cast them into its belly. Then it will retreat, and Allah will judge between the servants."
