Zuhayr narrated to us, Abu ‘Amir narrated to us, from Zuhayr, from ‘Abdullah ibn Muhammad, from ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Sa’id al-Khudri, from his father, who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say upon this pulpit: "What is the matter with people who say that the kinship of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) does not benefit his people? Yes, by Allah, my kinship is connected in this world and the Hereafter. And I, O people, am a forerunner for you at the Basin (al-Hawd). When you come, a man will say: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so,' and another will say: 'I am so-and-so, son of so-and-so.' I will say: 'As for the lineage, I have recognized it, but you introduced (innovations) after me and turned back on your heels.'"
