Zuhayr narrated to us, Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, from Abu al-Tayyah, from Abu al-Wadak, who said: My companion and I differed regarding the *hantam* (earthenware jars), so we came to Abu Sa’id al-Khudri and said to him: "Narrate to us something you heard from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) regarding the *hantam*." He said: "If I were to say that, we were sometimes, during the time of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace), such that some of us would be present and hear from him, and some of us would be occupied by our estates. So he would come when the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) had already stood up, and he would say: 'What did he say?' And we would inform him of what the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) had said." "And indeed, a drinker was brought one day, and he was shaken by the hands and struck with sandals. He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not drink wine.' He said: 'Then what did you drink?' He said: 'I only took some dates and some raisins and put them in a gourd of mine.' So the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) forbade mixing dates and raisins in the gourd and the pitched vessel."
