Zuhayr narrated to us, Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Ibn Ishaq, 'Isa ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Malik narrated to me, from Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn 'Ata', from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: I heard the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saying: "If one of you intends a matter, let him say: 'O Allah, I seek Your counsel by Your knowledge, and I seek Your ability by Your power, and I ask You of Your bounty. For indeed, You are able and I am not able, and You know and I do not know, and You are the Knower of the unseen. O Allah, if such and such a matter—which he desires—is good for me in my religion, my livelihood, and the outcome of my affair, then ordain it for me. And if not, then turn it away from me and turn me away from it. Then ordain for me the good wherever it may be.' There is no power and no strength except by Allah."
