Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 42:74
From the Musnad of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (RA)
Hadith 42:74
Salih ibn Hatim ibn Wardan narrated to us, Mu'tamir ibn Sulayman narrated to us, he said: I heard my father narrating from Qatadah, from Uqbah ibn Abd al-Ghafir, from Abu Sa'id, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "There was a man among those who were before you who had never stored up any good with Allah at all." He said: Qatadah explained it as: "He had never saved any good with Allah at all." He said to his sons at the time of death: "O my sons, what kind of father have I been to you?" They said: "The best of fathers." He said: "If I die, then burn me," or he said: "Crush me," or he said: "Grind me," "and when it is a day of violent wind, scatter me." He said: So he died, and that was done to him. Then Allah said: "Be," and he was, faster than the blinking of an eye. Then Allah said: "O My servant, what compelled you to do what you did?" He said: "Fear of You, O my Lord." He said: So He did not delay in forgiving him.
