Abu al-Ash'ath Ahmad ibn al-Miqdam al-'Ijli narrated to us, Mu'tamir narrated to us, and 'Asim ibn Muhammad ibn al-Nadr al-Ahwal narrated to us—and his copy is from the copy of 'Asim—he said: Mu'tamir narrated to us, he said: I heard my father, Qatadah narrated to us, from 'Uqbah ibn 'Abd al-Ghafir, from Abu Sa'id, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "A man will surely take his father by the hand on the Day of Resurrection and will cut through the Fire, intending to enter him into Paradise. Then it will be called out: 'Paradise is not entered by a polytheist; indeed, Allah has forbidden Paradise to every polytheist.' He will say: 'O my Lord, my father!' Then he will be transformed into an ugly form and a foul stench. Then he will leave him." He said: The companions of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) used to think that it was Ibrahim, and the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) did not add anything to that for them.
