Ubayd Allah ibn Umar al-Qawariri narrated to us, Abd al-A’la narrated to us, Sa’id ibn Iyas al-Jurayri narrated to us, from Abu Nadra, from Abu Sa’id, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) delivered a sermon to us and said: "Indeed, Allah is offering [a suggestion]—meaning regarding wine—so whoever has any of it, let him sell it and benefit from it." We did not wait but a little while until the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Indeed, Allah has forbidden wine. So whoever is reached by this verse, let him neither sell it nor drink it." He said: So the people took what they had of it and poured it out in the streets of Medina.
