Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 45:18

Ibrahim ibn Muhammad ibn ‘Ar‘arah narrated to us, Rawh ibn ‘Ubadah narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah, who said: It was mentioned to us from Anas, from Abu Talhah, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) commanded on the day of Badr [the bodies of] twenty-four men from the chieftains of Quraysh, and they were cast into a well from the wells of Badr, which was foul and evil. It was his habit, when he overcame a people, to like to stay in their courtyard for three nights. When it was the third day at Badr, he commanded his riding camel, and its saddle was fastened upon it. Then he walked, and his companions followed him, saying, "We do not see him setting out except to relieve himself." Until he stood at the edge of the well, and he began calling them by their names and the names of their fathers: "O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! O so-and-so, son of so-and-so! Would it please you if you had obeyed Allah and His Messenger? For we have found what our Lord promised us to be true, so have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?" ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said, "O Messenger of Allah, are you speaking to bodies that have no souls?" The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said, "By Him in whose hand is my soul, you are not more hearing to what I say than they are." Qatadah said: Allah brought them to life so that He made them hear as a rebuke, a belittlement, a vengeance, a regret, and a remorse.
