Hadith 149:141
Abu al-Rabi' narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Hisham bin 'Urwah narrated to us, from his father, from 'Aishah, who said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed ghusl (ritual bath) for janabah (major ritual impurity), he would pour with his right hand onto his left hand, then wash his private part—and perhaps I said "the private part"—then he would perform wudu (ablution) like his wudu for prayer. Then he would insert his hand into the water, then move it through his hair. When he thought that the water had reached the skin, he would pour water over his head three times. And there would remain a remainder in the vessel, so he would pour it over himself after he had finished.
