Hadith 149:19

Abu Ma'mar narrated to us, from Ali ibn Hashim, from Hisham ibn Urwah, from Bakr ibn Wa'il, from al-Zuhri, from Urwah, from Aisha, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) never struck a woman at all, nor did he strike a servant of his at all, nor did he strike anything with his hand at all, except when he was striving in the way of Allah. And nothing was ever done to him for which he took revenge on the perpetrator, unless the sanctities of Allah were violated, in which case he would take revenge.

حدثنا أبو معمر عن علي بن هاشم عن هشام بن عروة عن بكر بن وائل عن الزهري عن عروة عن عائشة قالت * ما ضرب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم امرأة قط ولا ضرب خادما له قط ولا ضرب بيده شيئا قط إلا أن يجاهد في سبيل الله وما نيل منه شيء فانتقمه من صاحبه إلا أن تنتهك محارم الله فينتقم
