Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 149:71

'Abd al-A'la ibn Hammad narrated to us, Muslim ibn Khalid narrated to us, from 'Abd Allah ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Yunus, the freed slave of 'Aishah, that 'Aishah said: A man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while I was standing behind the door listening. He said: "The prayer overtakes me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity (junub), and I intend to fast." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "And the prayer overtakes me while I am in a state of major ritual impurity, and I intend to fast, then I perform ghusl and fast." The man said: "You are not like us; Allah has forgiven you your past sins and what is to come." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "And I, indeed, hope that I am the most God-fearing of you toward Allah and the most knowledgeable of you regarding the limits of Allah."
