Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 159:129

Abu Hammam narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, Hisham bin Sa’d narrated to me, from Zayd bin Aslam, from ‘Ata’ bin Yasar, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "When Allah created Adam, He wiped his back, and there fell from his back every soul that will exist until the Day of Resurrection. He presented them to Adam, and he saw on the face of every man among them a glimmer of light. He saw a man among them whose glimmer pleased him, so he said: 'Who is this, O Lord?' He said: 'This is from your offspring, his name is Dawud.' He said: 'And how long is his lifespan, O Lord?' He said: 'Sixty years.' He said: 'Increase him from my lifespan by forty years.' He said: 'If it is written and sealed, it shall not be changed.' He said: 'When the lifespan of Adam had expired, except for the forty years that he had gifted to Dawud, the Angel of Death came to him.' Adam said: 'There remain forty years of my lifespan.' He said: 'Did you not give them to your son, Dawud?' He said: 'So he denied, and his offspring denied; and Adam erred, and his offspring erred; and he forgot, and his offspring forgot.' He saw among them the strong and the weak, the rich and the poor, and the afflicted. He said: 'O Lord, would You not have made them equal?' He said: 'I willed to be thanked.'"
