Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 159:130

Yahya ibn Ayyub narrated to us, Isma'il narrated to us, Sharik narrated to us, from 'Ata' ibn Yasar, the freed slave of Maymunah, from Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "The needy person is not the one whom a date or two, or a morsel or two, turns away. Rather, the needy person is the one who refrains from asking. Read, if you wish: 'They do not ask people persistently.'"
