Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 106:9

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Jarir ibn Abd al-Hamid narrated to us, from Mansur, from al-Sha'bi, from al-Bara' ibn 'Azib, who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) delivered a sermon to us on the day of al-Adha after the prayer. He said: "Whoever prays our prayer and performs our sacrifice has attained the sacrifice. And whoever performs the sacrifice before the prayer, then his sheep is a sheep of meat, and he has no sacrifice." Abu Burdah ibn Niyar, the maternal uncle of al-Bara', said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have performed the sacrifice of my sheep before the prayer. I knew that today is a day of eating and drinking, and I liked for my sheep to be the first thing slaughtered in my house, so I slaughtered my sheep and ate lunch before I came to the prayer." He (the Prophet) said: "Your sheep is a sheep of meat." He said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have a young she-goat of ours, a *jadha'ah* (one-year-old), which is dearer to me than two sheep. Will it suffice for me?" He said: "Yes, but it will not suffice for anyone after you."
