Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 84:1

Hadba ibn Khalid narrated to us, Aban ibn Yazid narrated to us, Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to us, that Zayd narrated to him, that Abu Salam narrated to him, that al-Harith al-Ash'ari narrated to him, that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Indeed, Allah commanded Yahya ibn Zakariyya with five words to act upon and to command the Children of Israel to act upon. And 'Isa ibn Maryam said to him: 'Indeed, Allah has commanded you with five words to act upon and to command the Children of Israel to act upon. So either you command them, or I will command them.' He said: 'If you precede me with them, I fear that I will be punished or that the earth will swallow me.' So he gathered the people in Bayt al-Maqdis until it was full, and the people sat on the balconies. He said: 'Indeed, Allah has commanded me with five words to act upon and I command you to act upon them. The first of them is that you worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him. For the likeness of one who associates partners with Allah is like a man who bought a slave with his own pure wealth, with gold or silver. He said: "This is my house and this is my work, so work and pay me." Then he began to work and pay someone other than his master. So which of you would be pleased if his slave were like that? And Allah created you and provided for you, so do not associate anything with Him. And I command you to pray, so when you pray, do not turn away. And I command you to fast, for the likeness of that is like a man who had a pouch containing musk, and he had a group with him, all of whom were pleased to find its scent. And indeed, fasting is more pleasant to Allah than the scent of musk. And I command you to give charity, for the likeness of that is like a man whom the enemy captured, and they stood over him and bound his hand to his neck. He said: "Will you accept that I ransom myself from you?" So he began to give them little and much to free himself from them. And I command you to remember Allah much, for the likeness of that is like a man whom the enemy pursued quickly until he came to a fortified fortress and protected himself within it. Likewise, the servant does not protect himself from Satan except by the remembrance of Allah.'" The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "And I command you with five that Allah commanded me with: the community (al-jama'ah), listening, obeying, migration, and jihad in the way of Allah. For whoever separates from the community by a span, he has cast off the yoke of Islam from his neck, unless he returns. And whoever calls with the call of Jahiliyyah, then he is from the rubble of Hell." It was said: "Even if he fasts and prays?" He said: "Even if he prays and fasts. So call with the call of Allah, who named you Muslims, believers, the servants of Allah."
