Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 3:104

Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Ubayd narrated to us, Hashim ibn al-Barid narrated to us, from Husayn ibn Maymun, from Abdullah ibn Abdullah, the judge of Rayy, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, who said: I heard the Commander of the Faithful, Ali, say: I, Fatimah, al-Abbas, and Zayd ibn Harithah gathered. Al-Abbas said: "O Messenger of Allah, my age has increased, my bones have become brittle, and my expenses have become many. If you see fit, O Messenger of Allah, to order for me such and such a number of wasqs of food, then do so." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have done so." Fatimah said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you see fit to order for me what you ordered for him, then do so." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have done that." Zayd ibn Harithah said: "O Messenger of Allah, you had given me land from which was my livelihood, then you took it back from me. If you see fit to return it to me, then do so." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have done that." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, if you see fit to put me in charge of this right which Allah has placed for us in His Book regarding this khums (one-fifth), so that I may distribute it during your lifetime, then no one will dispute it with me after you." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I have done that." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) put me in charge of it, and I distributed it during his lifetime. Then Abu Bakr put me in charge of it, and I distributed it during his lifetime. Then Umar put me in charge of it, and I distributed it during his lifetime, until it was the last year of the years of Umar. A large amount of wealth came to him, so he set aside the fifth, then sent for me and said: "O Ali, this is your right, so take it." I said: "O Commander of the Faithful, we have no need of it this year, and the Muslims are in need of it, so return it to them." So Umar returned it that year. Then no one invited me to it after Umar until I stood in this position of mine. Al-Abbas met me and said: "O Ali, you have stripped us today of something that will never be returned to us."
