Hadith 3:115
Khalaf ibn Hisham narrated to us, Abu al-Ahwas narrated to us, from Mansur, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubaydah, from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, from 'Ali, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) for a funeral. When we reached Baqi' al-Gharqad, the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sat down, and we sat with him. He took a stick and began to scratch the ground with it. Then he raised his head and said: "There is not one among you, there is no soul that is breathed into, except that Allah has known its place in Paradise and its place in the Fire, and whether it is miserable or happy." A man from the people stood up and said: "Should we not then abandon action and rely upon our Book (decree)? For whoever among us is of the people of happiness will be facilitated toward the action of happiness, and whoever is of the people of misery will end up toward misery." He said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "Rather, act, for everyone is facilitated. Whoever is of the people of happiness will be facilitated toward the action of happiness, and whoever is of the people of misery will be facilitated toward the action of misery."
