Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 3:158

Ubayd Allah ibn Umar narrated to us, Bishr ibn al-Mufaddal narrated to us, Asim ibn Kulayb narrated to us, from Abu Burdah, from Ali, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Ali, say: 'O Allah, guide me and direct me (to what is right).' And remember by 'guidance' your guidance to the path, and remember by 'directing' your directing of the arrow." He said: And he forbade me from placing the ring on the index finger and the middle finger, and he forbade me from the *qasiyyah* (garment) and the *maytharah* (saddlecloth). Abu Burdah said: So we said to Ali, "What is the *qasiyyah*?" He said: "Garments from Syria and Egypt, striped, containing things like the citron." He said: "And the *maytharah* is something that women used to make for their husbands, like velvet cloths."
