Hadith 3:172
Hadaba ibn Khalid narrated to us, Hammam ibn Yahya narrated to us, Ali ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal: That his father was in charge of Uthman’s food. My father said: It is as if I am looking at the partridges around the large bowls. A man came and said to Uthman, "Indeed, Ali dislikes this." So he sent for Ali, and he came while his forearms were stained with the leaves of trees (used for fodder). He (Uthman) said, "You are very much in opposition to us." Ali said, "I adjure by Allah any man who witnessed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when the hindquarters of a wild donkey were gifted to him, and he said, 'We are in a state of ihram, so feed it to the people of the hill (those not in ihram).' So men stood up and testified." Ali said, "I adjure by Allah any man who witnessed the Prophet (ﷺ) when five ostrich eggs were gifted to him, and he said, 'We are in a state of ihram, so feed them to the people of the hill.' So men stood up and testified." Then Uthman stood up and entered his tent, and the people departed and left the food for the people of the water.
