Abu Ya'la Ahmad ibn Ali ibn al-Muthanna al-Mawsili informed us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Salam and Mahmud ibn Khidash and others narrated to us, they said: Marwan ibn Mu'awiyah al-Fazari narrated to us, from al-Azhar ibn Rashid al-Kahili—and in the hadith of Mahmud: al-Azhar ibn Rashid narrated to us, from al-Khidr ibn al-Qawwas, from Abu Sakhilah, who said: Ali said to us: "Shall I not inform you?" And in the hadith of al-Jumahi, Abd al-Rahman, from Abu Sakhilah, from Ali, that he said: "Shall I not inform you of the best verse in the Book of Allah, which the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) narrated to me? He said: 'Whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned, and He pardons much' (Ash-Shura: 30)." He said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to me: "I will explain it to you, O Ali: Whatever befalls you in this world of affliction, illness, or punishment, Allah is too generous to punish you twice in the Hereafter. And whatever He pardons in this world, Allah is too forbearing to return to it after His pardon."
