Musnad Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA)
Hadith 3:212
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah and Abu Hisham al-Rifa'i narrated to us—and this is the wording of Abu Bakr—[who said]: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Kulayb, from his father, who said: I was sitting with 'Ali while he was occupied with some of the people's affairs, when a man wearing travel clothes came to him and said, "O Commander of the Faithful." But 'Ali was preoccupied with what he was doing regarding the people's affairs. I said, "What is your matter?" He said, "I was on Hajj or 'Umrah—I do not know which of the two—and I passed by 'Aishah. She said, 'Who are these people who went out before you, who are called the Haruriyyah?' I said, 'They are in a place called Harura.' She said, 'So they were named the Haruriyyah because of that.' She then said, 'Glad tidings to whoever witnesses their destruction. By Allah, if you were to ask the son of Abu Talib, he would inform you of their news.' So, I came to ask him about that." 'Ali finished [his task] and said, "Where is the one seeking permission?" The man stood before him and narrated to him just as he had narrated to me. 'Ali swore three times, then said: "I was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and there was no one with him except 'Aishah. He said to me, 'O 'Ali, how will you be with a people who will emerge in such-and-such a place?'—and he gestured with his hand toward the east—'They will recite the Qur'an, but it will not pass beyond their throats or their collarbones. They will pass through Islam just as an arrow passes through the game. Among them is a man with a deformed hand, as if his hand were the breast of an Abyssinian woman.' Then he said, 'I adjure you by Allah, besides whom there is no god, did I tell you that he is among them?' They said, 'Yes.' Then you went and sought him out, and you brought him dragging him just as he described to you." He then said, "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth," three times.
