Musnad Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA)

Hadith 3:220

Ubayd Allah ibn Umar narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, Jamil ibn Murrah narrated to us, from Abu al-Wadi’, who said: I witnessed Ali when the people of al-Nahrawan were killed. He said: "Search for the *mukhdaj* (the malformed one)." They searched for him among the slain and said: "We do not find him." He said: "Go back and search for him, for by Allah, I have not lied, nor have I been lied to." So they went back and searched for him, then he repeated that several times: "I have not lied, nor have I been lied to." They went and found him underneath the slain in the mud, so they brought him out and brought him [to Ali]. Abu al-Wadi’ said: It is as if I am looking at him—an Abyssinian wearing a tunic, one of his hands was like a woman’s breast, upon which were hairs like those on the tail of a jerboa.
