Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 3:222

Abu Hisham al-Rifa'i narrated to us, Ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from 'Asim ibn Kulayb, from his father, who said: I was sitting with 'Ali when a man wearing travel clothes came and said, "O Commander of the Faithful, will you permit me to speak?" 'Ali was speaking to the people and they were speaking to him, so he did not turn to him. I asked him about his news, and he said: "I was performing 'Umrah and I met 'A'ishah. She said, 'Who are these people who have emerged in your land, who are called the Haruriyyah?' I said, 'They emerged from a place called Harura', so they were named after it.' She said, 'Did you witness their destruction?' I do not know if he said 'yes' or 'no'. She said, 'Glad tidings to whoever witnessed their destruction. By Allah, if 'Ali ibn Abi Talib had willed, he could have informed you of their news.' So I came to ask him about their news." 'Ali finished, then said, "Where is the one who asked for permission?" He narrated to him what he had narrated to us. 'Ali then proclaimed *tahlil* (La ilaha illa Allah) and *takbir* (Allahu Akbar) twice, then said: "I entered upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while there was no one with him except 'A'ishah, the Mother of the Believers. He said, 'O 'Ali, how will you be with a people such and such?' I said, 'Allah and His Messenger know best,' and he gestured with his hand. He said, 'A people who will emerge from the East, reciting the Qur'an, but it will not pass beyond their collarbones. They will pass through the religion just as an arrow passes through the game. Among them is a man with a deformed limb, as if his hand is the breast of an Abyssinian woman.' I adjure you by Allah, did I inform you about them?" They said, "Yes." He said, "I adjure you by Allah, did I inform you that he is among them?" They said, "Yes." He said, "And you informed me that he is not among them, so I swore to you that he is among them?" They said, "Yes." He said, "Then you brought him to me, dragging him just as I described to you?" They said, "Yes, Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth."
