Al-Hasan ibn 'Arafah narrated to us, 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Rahman Abu Hafs al-Abbar narrated to us, al-Hakam ibn 'Abd al-Malik narrated to us, from al-Harith ibn Hasirah, from Abu Sadiq, from Rabi'ah ibn Najid, from 'Ali, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said to me: "In you is a likeness of 'Isa ibn Maryam. The Jews hated him until they slandered his mother, and the Christians loved him until they placed him in a position that does not belong to him." Then 'Ali said: "Two types of men will perish concerning me: a lover who exaggerates and attributes to me what is not in me, and a hater who fabricates and is driven by his hatred of me to slander me."
