Musnad Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA)

مسند علي بن أبي طالب رضي الله عنه

Hadith 3:314

Ubayd Allah narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd Allah ibn Abi Salamah narrated to us, my paternal uncle al-Majishun ibn Abi Salamah narrated to me, from Abd al-Rahman al-A’raj, from Ubayd Allah ibn Abi Rafi’, from Ali, that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), when he began the prayer, would say the takbir, then say: "I have turned my face toward He who created the heavens and the earth, inclining toward truth, and I am not of the polytheists. Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds. No partner has He. And of this I have been commanded, and I am the first of the Muslims. O Allah, You are the Sovereign; there is no god but You. You are my Lord and I am Your servant. I have wronged my soul and confessed my sin, so forgive me all my sins, for none forgives sins except You. Guide me to the best of characters, for none guides to the best of them except You, and turn away from me their evil, for none turns away their evil from me except You. At Your service and at Your command, and all good is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You. I am by You and toward You. Blessed are You and Exalted. I seek Your forgiveness and repent to You." And when he bowed, he said: "O Allah, to You I have bowed, to You I have submitted, and in You I have believed. My hearing, my sight, my bones, my marrow, and my nerves have humbled themselves before You." And when he raised his head from bowing, he said: "Allah hears those who praise Him. Our Lord, to You be praise, filling the heavens and filling the earth and what is between them, and filling whatever You will of anything after that." And when he prostrated, he said: "O Allah, to You I have prostrated, to You I have submitted, and in You I have believed. My face has prostrated to the One who created it and fashioned it, and perfected its form, and split its hearing and its sight. So blessed is Allah, the best of creators." And when he gave the salutation, he said: "O Allah, forgive me what I have sent forth and what I have delayed, what I have concealed and what I have declared, and what You know better than I. You are the Advancer and You are the Delayer. There is no god but You."
