Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 3:322

Zuhayr narrated to us, Jarir narrated to us, from Mansur, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubaydah, from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman, from 'Ali, who said: We were at a funeral in Baqi' al-Gharqad, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came to us. He sat down, and we sat around him, and he had a staff with him. He lowered his head and began to poke with his staff. Then he said: "There is not one among you, there is no soul that is breathed into, except that Allah has written its place in Paradise and its place in the Fire, and it has been written whether it is miserable or happy." A man said: "O Messenger of Allah, shall we not rely upon our writing and abandon deeds? For whoever is among the people of happiness will end up doing the deeds of the people of happiness, and whoever is among the people of misery will end up doing the deeds of the people of misery." He said: "Act, for everyone is facilitated. As for the people of happiness, they are facilitated for the deeds of the people of happiness. And as for the people of misery, they are facilitated for the deeds of the people of misery." Then he recited: "As for he who gives and fears Allah, and believes in the best [reward], We will facilitate him toward ease. But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need, and denies the best [reward], We will facilitate him toward difficulty."
