Hadith 3:351
Abu Khaythama narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Sa'd ibn 'Ubaydah, from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami, from 'Ali, who said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, appointed a man from the Ansar over a military detachment he sent out, and he commanded them to listen to him and obey him. He said: Then they angered him regarding something, so he said: "Gather firewood for me." So they gathered it. Then he said: "Kindle a fire." So they kindled it. Then he said: "Did the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, not command you to listen to me and obey me?" They said: "Yes." He said: "Then enter it." He said: So they looked at one another and said: "We only fled to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, from the fire." He said: So his anger subsided and the fire went out. When they arrived at the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, they mentioned that to him. He said: "If they had entered it, they would not have come out of it. Obedience is only in what is good."
