Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 3:89

Ubayd Allah narrated to us, Waki' narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Muslim al-Batin, from Ali ibn al-Husayn, from Marwan ibn al-Hakam, who said: We were traveling with Uthman ibn Affan, and he heard a man performing talbiyah for both of them [Hajj and Umrah] together. He said, "Who is this?" Ali said, "It is I." So he came to him and said, "Do you not know that I have forbidden this?" He replied, "Yes, but I will not abandon the saying of the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) for your saying."
