Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 3:96

Ubayd Allah narrated to us, Hammad bin Zayd narrated to us, Ali bin Zayd narrated to us, from Abdullah bin al-Harith, that his father prepared a feast for Uthman bin Affan at Qudayd. Then, a *tharid* (broth with bread) was brought, upon which was that partridge. He (Uthman) said to the people, "Eat, for it was only caught for my sake." The people said, "This is Ali, he forbade us from eating it." So he sent for Ali, and he came while he was wiping the *khabt* (leaves/fodder) from his hands. Uthman said to him, "Eat." Ali said, "I adjure by Allah any man who witnessed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when the Bedouin came with the leg of a wild donkey, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) rejected it and said, 'Go to the people of the *hill* (those not in the state of ihram), for we are in a state of *ihram*,' or as he said." Some people stood up and testified. Then he said, "I adjure by Allah," or he said, "I remind by Allah, any man who witnessed the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) when the Bedouin came to him with ostrich eggs, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, 'Go with it to the people of the *hill*, for we are a people in a state of *ihram*.'" Some people stood up and testified. So Uthman turned his hip and entered his house, and the people stood up from the food, and the people of the *hill* came and ate it.
