Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 105:28

Hajjaj ibn Yusuf al-Sha'ir narrated to us, Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Salih, from Ibn Shihab, 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Abd Allah ibn 'Utbah narrated to me, from Ibn 'Abbas, from 'Ammar ibn Yasir: That the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) camped at Dhat al-Jaysh, and with him was 'Aisha, his wife. A necklace of hers made of Zafari onyx broke, so he detained the people seeking that necklace of hers until the dawn broke, and the people had no water. Abu Bakr became angry with her and said, "You have detained the people, and they have no water." Then Allah the Exalted revealed to His Messenger the concession for purification with pure soil. The Muslims stood up with the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and struck their hands upon the ground, then lifted their hands without grasping any of the dust. They wiped their faces and their hands up to the shoulders, and from the inner parts of their hands up to the armpits.
