Musnad Abu Ya'la al-Mawsili 105:31

Hajjaj narrated to us, Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us, from Ma'mar, from al-Zuhri, from Ubayd Allah, that Ammar ibn Yasir used to narrate that he was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) on a journey, and Aisha was with him. Her necklace was lost, so he was detained, or the people were detained, in search of it, and they did not have water with them. Then Allah the Exalted revealed the verse of Tayammum. Ammar said: So they struck their hands [on the ground] and wiped their faces with them. Then they returned and struck their hands [on the ground] and wiped their hands up to the armpits, or he said: up to the shoulders. Abd al-Razzaq said: And Ma'mar used to narrate from al-Zuhri, from Ubayd Allah, that Ammar used to wipe his face with Tayammum with one wipe, then he would return and wipe his hands up to the armpits. And Ma'mar used to abbreviate it like this.
